The Quest

The Lit (or Literature) Quest refers to my personal quest to be well read.  I've always loved to read.  When I was 16, I made the decision that I would forgo "fluff" novels to read Classic Literature in my spare time.  (You can read more about my decision to start this journey in my first blog entry: My Quest.)

I like reading Classic Literature because it almost always teaches and stimulates me, even when it also challenges and frustrates me.  I've learned a lot about human nature, and my mind has been opened to a number of different perspectives.  I've also been exposed to philosophy and theology in the context of literature, which has stretched my brain immensely.  And, of course, I've increased my vocabulary along the way.

As if this weren't enough, the books I've read so far have led to countless conversations with people who have also been influenced by them.  I live for these conversations!  I love hearing various perspectives on literature, and people have repeatedly shown me something fascinating in literature that I completely missed.  Sometimes, these discussions have even been starting points in my relationships with people.  It's so easy to talk about literature you love, even when you don't know the other person very well yet.  Plus, it often leads to recommendations for other books, which are just as fascinating and inspiring.

I turned my quest into a blog because I wanted to open the door for even more discussion.  I want to hear what all you fellow book-lovers are thinking.  I want your insights and recommendations, and I hope that I can share some with you as well.

Plus, it's always fun when someone asks, "Have you read [such and such book]?" and you can answer, "Yes, yes I have."
